FG Yet To Initiate Any Form Of Negotiation - ASUU The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has disclosed that the federal government is yet to invite the union to any form of negotiation towards resolving the strike. This was revealed by the president of the union, Biodun Ogunyem in a telephone chat with news men. Mr Ogunyemi said the union has placed a memorandum before the government on how universities can be funded, but nothing has been done on it. Concerning the compliance of its members to the strike action so far, Mr Ogunyemi said “Our members remain resolute and report we are getting from branches indicate that our members are determined. Minister Proposes Extra One Year Of Re-schooling For University Graduates The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah, has put forward a proposal for Nigerian students to spend extra year in specialized institutions after graduation to make them employable. This was during the ongoing Retreat for Governing Councils of Nigerian Federal Universities, organized by the National Universities Commission (NUC) with the theme, “Elements of Statutory Governance, Procurement and Financial Accounting in Nigerian Universities.” He said the suggestion was being made because many university graduates were not good enough to be employed by industries.  “Law students attend Law School for one year before going for NYSC and medical students go for one year Houseman ship before they are allowed to practice fully, so it will be necessary for other courses to also go through this process,” Mr Anwukah said. “The Lagos Business School can also serve as a one year after-school training,

Iran bans teaching of English language in primary schools

Iran’s head of High Education Council said teaching of English at the primary school level is now against the law - Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said teaching of English language will expose the children to Western cultures - Ali Khamenei, however, said Iran is not opposed to learning of foreign language Mehdi Navid-Adham, head Iran's High Education Council, said on state television late on Saturday, January 6, that teaching English language at the primary school level is now unlawful. He said: "Teaching English in government and non-government primary schools in the official curriculum is against laws and regulations." "This is because the assumption is that, in primary education, the groundwork for the Iranian culture of the students is laid,” he added.
