CONTENDING ISSUES CONCERNING ASUU STRIKE

Image
*ISSUES IN CONTENTION* A year after, the Federal government went to town, apparently to malign ASUU that it has released the sum of N20billion to the union for revitalisation! Meanwhile only university administrations get credited for funds allocated to Universities. It is even more saddening that no N20billion has been released so far. The Union was also angered by the hard-line stance of the leader of Government renegotiation of ASUU/FGN agreements. Dr Wale Babalakin (SAN) who the Union reportedly said only new agreements should be discussed while previous agreements and MoU/MoA (1992, 2001, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2017) should be discarded! This led to the breakdown of renegotiation. ASUU felt insulted and pained that it lost many brilliant Nigerians like Professor Festus Iyayi to the struggle. While the union acknowledged that some progress has been made in payment of shortfall in salaries, in a letter written to the Minister of Education on  October 2018, ASUU asked government to pa

Despite Ban By NBC, Falz’s ‘This Is Nigeria’ Crosses 15 Million Views On YouTube The video for ‘This Is Nigeria’, the controversial song by Folarin Falana, better known as ‘Falz The Bad Guy’, has crossed 15million YouTube views within six months of release. This is despite the ban by the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) just three months into his release. NBC announced the ban of the song in August, a letter by Igomu Onoja, one of its zonal directors, branding a part of the song “vulgar” and declaring the entire work “unfit for radio”. But it appears the ban has done very little to halt the popularity of the song among the people, as it had exactly 15,141,548 views as of the time of filing in this report on Thursday evening. Earlier, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) had given Falz a seven-day ultimatum to withdraw the “hate video”. “This video has the potential of causing religious crisis of unprecedented dimension. It is an assault on the self-dignity of every Muslim. It

The woman is expected to face unspecified charges on Sunday evening. Police said the 50-year-old was arrested on Sunday following a complex nationwide investigation which was launched after shocked shoppers first reported the contamination in September. A customer took a disturbing photo of a needle wedged inside a strawberry. It's believed the scare affected several states in Australia. There were over 100 reports of needles being found in strawberries, though many were suspected to be copycat cases or social media stunts. Farmers were forced to dump tonnes of berries, and supermarkets pulled the fruit off sale.
