FG declares Tuesday, May 29th public holiday The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, May 29, as public holiday to celebrate the 2018 Democracy Day.   Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau, made the declaration on Friday in Abuja on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued by Dr M. Umar the Permanent Secretary.     Dambazau congratulated Nigerians on the occasion and pledged government’s continued dedication to entrenching democracy in the country. He also urged all Nigerians to trust and support the government in its commitment to building an indivisible, peaceful and greater nation based on the tenets of democracy.   The Minister wished all Nigerians a Happy Democracy Day celebration.

Imam arrested with human organs in Lagos

Men of the Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arrested an Islamic cleric, Alfa Kayode Abdul-Fatai in Alakuko area of the State over alleged illegal possession of human parts, including a female private organ. The suspect, who was arrested at No. 4, Okedumola Street, off Obadare area of Alakuko, was said to have also been caught with female heart and a female lap. While confirming the arrest, Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, SP Chike Oti, told reporters that the Islamic cleric was arrested following a tip off and investigation by the officers in the command. Oti said the suspect, during interrogation, revealed that the said human parts were given to him by an accomplice who has also been rounded up. According to Oti, the suspect and the accomplice would be charged to court at the end of investigation. At Least 10 Killed in Fresh Attacks on Kaduna Communities

At least 10 people were feared killed and even more sustained severe injuries in new attacks on two communities in Kaduna State. Properties were also looted and houses razed during the predawn attacks which witnesses told us occurred in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, about 125 kilometers west of Kaduna town, and bore the marks of killer herdsmen. “The herdsmen entered the villages between Friday night and early Saturday morning and killed about 10 people,” a witness said, preferring not to be named. The Kaduna State police commissioner, Agyole Abeh confirmed the attacks to us Saturday evening but said only four were killed and five injured. “We have since deployed ‘Operation Dofaji’ and other police components to the area,” Mr. Abeh said. Witnesses who reported the incident to us said the armed intruders stormed the village of Dangaji around 8:00 p.m. Friday, killing many and leaving several injured. Nigeria has been ranked as the second worst nation in power supply as power drops to 3,851 megawatts, MW. The Spectator Index of the world’s worst electricity supply in 2017, stated this in a report released by @spectatorindex twitter handle, yesterday. Of the 137 countries examined in the report, Yemen ranked as worst electricity supply nations in 2017, followed by Nigeria, Haiti, Lebanon, and Malawi. Ethiopia occupied the 37 position, while South Africa and Algeria occupied the 41, 45 positions respectively.
